Back to our Roots

This weekend we are returning to where it all started for our family business, as some might say we are returning to our roots.  We are excited to once again be trading at our local Farmers’ Market in the beautiful city of Ely.

It seems so long ago that we packed our car with boxes filled with delicious bakes, our pink gingham tablecloths and a banner with our then company name ‘The Gingerbread Lady’.  Having spent many hours baking sweet treats in our small home oven and carefully icing and decorated at our dining room table, our first day was filled with trepidation and excitement.  We were met with happy faces, kind words and a following of customers who came to each market to choose their next favourite cake flavour.  The rest, as they say, is history ….. and as a family run local business we have grown from strength to strength.

So why have we decided to return to Ely Farmers’ Market?

Growing a business is tremendously hard work and in the last 4 years we have concentrated much of our time on securing retail sales.  We are proud to supply our award winning products to farm shops, coffee shops and delicatessens across the country.  We now run a busy commercial kitchen and have a fantastic team of local staff.

During these years my role has changed from those early days …. as you can imagine a lot needs to happen behind the scenes of the kitchen to run the company smoothly.  Therefore I have found myself spending less and less time in the kitchen and more time behind a computer monitor.

So to answer the question, coming back to trade at Ely Farmers Market is allowing me the time to indulge in my love of baking and creating.

I am creative by nature and given the chance will spend many hours reading recipe books, visiting different cake shops to taste test and scribbling down flavour combinations and recipe ideas in my jotter.  I am happiest when I am creating new flavours and news designs.

Returning to our local market is allowing me to step back into the kitchens and focus my creative energy into a new, decorated brownie range.

Each time you see us we will have different delights to tempt you and we look forward to seeing old friends, who have supported us on our journey and hopefully lots of new customers too.
